Ohla Eixample is a dialogue between past and future. A dialogue between an old, anodyne office building and its rebirth as a luxury boutique hotel. Part of this metamorphosis can be seen in our 94 rooms: we’ve kept the old pillars and structures, which we’ve integrated using fine materials and painstakingly chosen furniture.
Its location, the variety of rooms we offer and our high quality and service standards make Ohla Eixample a truly appealing destination travellers for either business or pleasure who want to enjoy this “something extra” that a luxury boutique hotel should have.
The cuisine from the Delta del Ebro inspires and forms the backbone of this culinary experience, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2016. The food is honest and respectful of the product, and then takes it to a higher level. Rice dishes, eel, fish and seafood, game and meat from the lands near the Ebro River. Products crafted in contemporary ways with touches inspired by Asia and French Nouvelle Cuisine. The gourmet tasting menu, which is updated each season, gives a narrative meaning to a memorable gastronomic experience. You can enjoy it in its pared-down version at the Xerta Tapas Bar.
The career of this young chef, born in 1983 and raised in the kitchen, is carved into his DNA. From the fourth generation of a family in the restaurant business, he and his brother Joaquim started their own hotel-restaurant business, Villa Retiro, in the Terres de l’Ebre region, where they were born. In 2016, the Xerta project at Ohla began with one goal: to bring their project to a totally new luxury setting and to make it evolve.
Trained at the prestigious Hofmann cooking school, he started his professional experience with a stay at the Plaza Athénée under the orders of Alain Ducasse. His vision of cooking has grown and matured over projects and years. Today he has garnered prestige, two Michelin stars, but even more importantly, he has found a voice of his own on the competitive Spanish cooking scene.
The hustle and bustle of the city sounds like a distant hum. Hammocks that envelope you. An appetiser? A cocktail? But of course! On the eastern edge, near the façade, is a large heated swimming pool open all year round. All of this, and whoever wants to inhabit it, is our terrace.
